“Some call it a cacophony of decibels, others the joyful tunes of the future. But that’s the point of having the right to experiment”, exclaimed the narrator of a famous mid-Sixties’ newsreel on the Polish Radio Experimental Studio. Following the post-Stalinist thaw, everyone wished to experiment with sound: pre-war residents of Lviv, Zbigniew Wiszniewski, Andrzej Dobrowolski and Bogusław Schaeffer; the neurotic pioneer of Polish minimalism, Tomasz Sikorski; the self-taught country-boy genius, Eugeniusz Rudnik; as well as the classic contemporary Norwegian and Croatian musicians, Arne Nordheim and Dubravko Detoni.
Nowadays, modern electronic music visionaries are turning increasingly to the achievements of Polish sound production pioneers. Among them are the legendary German duet Mouse on Mars, formed by Andi Toma and Jan St. Werner in 1993. In the 1990s, the duo found themselves alongside artists such as Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada and Amon Tobin as the pioneers and key proponents of so-called Intelligent Dance Music. Their unique fusion of popular and experimental musical elements brought the band fame in circles way beyond the dance music universe.
On September 26, Mouse on Mars will treat Warsaw to a special composition based on sound samples gleaned from the Polish Radio Experimental Studio. Over 20,000 musical artists and producers from all over the world have made use of these sound libraries created jointly by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute and Ableton
Tickets will be available online at Polish National Radio, Bilety 24 and at the box office one hour prior to the concert. Ticket price 30 PLN
