Preserving video game history

Even though video games are a relatively young branch of culture, they already have a rich and complex history. Until recently, it was gathered and documented mainly by hobbyist collectors. Now it is a rapidly developing field, noticed both by the academia and museums. Preserving such digital works also extends to their material aspects – the data carriers they were published on, the additional documentation, the hardware required to run them. Video game history raises many fascinating questions about preserving digital culture in general. The Video Game History Foundation, co-founded by Frank Cifaldi, exists to deal with such problems.
