Knowledge Capital

With a concentration of major transport terminals and daily ridership of approximately 2.5 million people, the Osaka/Umeda area is the busiest locality in western Japan. Directly connected to JR Osaka Station, the largest gateway to the area, Grand Front Osaka was established in spring 2013, as the first phase of Osaka City redevelopment project.
The core facility of the new multi-purpose complex is ‘Knowledge Capital’. Knowledge Capital (KC) is a field for creating new values, where a wide variety of people, including businesspersons, researchers, creators and the general public, meet and exchange their knowledge and ideas. KC has all kinds of facilities to encourage visitors to interact with each other and is committed to supporting activities that begin with such interaction. With its concept of ‘Knowledge Innovation’, this globally unique ecosystem has offered opportunities for various projects for 6 years since its opening. With a view to meeting highly diverse needs for innovation and creativity, KC opens a new chapter for the next vision, the New Education Centre. It aims to find new pathways for education to benefit the next generation, including the development of programmes for education and the exchange of knowledge and information, with the interaction of human resources at the core.
This project will be followed by the second phase development, scheduled to be opened to the public in stages from 2024, with its concept of the fusion of green and innovation. Through the whole development of this urban area, Osaka will reinforce its function as a hub for the creation of new industries, interaction with people from around the world, and the development of intellectual human resources.
